Greetings VinoFiles,
As patrons of Vino100, most of you know that our specialty in wine is offering small production, great quality wines at affordable prices. We always strive to have wines that are wonderful representations of their respective growing region and varietal. Many of the producers we carry are family owned wineries that make wine out of passion and loyalty to the craft. We will always have 100 wines at $25 or less but want to make sure you are aware that we are not limited to that definition. We also carry several prestigious bottlings that don't fit that price point but we can assure you that the value for what you pay for is there. Here we would like to share three of those wines with you for the next time you want to splurge or need a very special gift for someone.
Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009
Walla Walla, Washington
Winemaker, Chris Figgins of the famed Figgins Family Wine Estates lends his hand at Drew Bledsoe's winery and it's a wonderful collaboration. The 2009 shows a beautiful deep ruby color in the glass. The nose evolves dramatically after a couple of hours. Initially there are notes of dried fruits, strawberries and a hint of saddle leather. After about 90 minutes the aromas evolve and begin to show some high toned floral notes and red fruits. The juice is round and soft on the attack with nicely integrated tannins even in its youth. The ripe red fruit is balanced nicely by crisp acidity. With the deft touch of a true master, Chris Figgins captured the essence of this fantastic vintage in the 2009 Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon. 93pts Wine Spectator

La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004
Howell Mountain-Napa, California
This wine exhibits rich, mountain-fruit intensity. Opulent aromas with a rich nose of cassis, nuances of wild strawberry & forest-earth. A small addition of Merlot, capped by some Petit Verdot provide broad tannins & spice. Black currants, plum & blueberries give this wine a rich & full bodied flavor. Take advantage of a wine with some maturity and enjoy fully. Decanting recommended. Winemaker- Chris Carpenter

Huarpe Guayquil, 2006
Mendoza, Argentina
This is a stunning, ultra-premium wine. Guayquil is the Chosen One in the Huarpe dialect. The wine is a blend of 45% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, 5% Bonarda, and 5% Tannat, from three very low yield, high altitude vineyards in Barrancas, Agrelo, & Tupungato all located within the province of Mendoza. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months. It is bottled, unfiltered & unfined, then spends one year in the bottle. Stephan Tanzer rated this wine 90 points saying the wine is dark red in color with plum, currant, mocha and mint along with high-toned oak on the nose. It is fat, lush and sweet, with good minty lift to the plum and chocolate flavors. The wine finishes with an even dusting of tannins and lingering notes of plum and oak. A very sensuous wine.
